we've got the same problem here. the box stats are:
4x XeonII at 400
512MB RAM
AMI Megaraid card 128MB RAM
4x 8GB SCSI disks
hdparm on 2.2.15 gives about 2-3 MB/s, on 2.2.14pre16 it was around
14MB/s.
