You should be able to run two drives ok.

I can run two drives on any position on my onboard [PIIX4 or VIA] and
HPT366 controllers.

If i put two drives on one controller, and one on the other, then i am
reduced to non dma mode.

It only happens under load, a simple test i do is "cat /dev/hd?
>/dev/null" for each drive simulataneously.
