boot problems

I've got a strange behavior with 2.2.14 / suse6.4

make install (lilo) leads to:

Kernel doesn't support initial RAM disks,
regardless the setting of CONFIG_BLK_DEV_RAM
and CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD.

Is there any other option related to this?

It's a mixed scsi(78xx)/ide box and I'm not able
to boot it from disk. I tried lilo and chos on
both scsi/ide.

With chos on IDE it hangs after leaving the
menu (Loading Linux....).

chos on scsi just leads to disk failure.

On each disk I have a small 1st partition of abaut
15MB (/boot and /boot2).

What's wrong with the configuration - any hint?

thx - Frank
