Parallel ATAPI Tape driver crashs

Hi,

i have an external HP Colorado 8GB tape. it's connected to the
parallel port. i'm running Linux 2.2.15 (with
ide.2.2.15.20000504.patch) and i've compiled 'Parallel port IDE device
support' and 'Parallel port ATAPI tapes' driver as modules. after
loading the protocoll driver ('epat') and the tape driver 'pt', i can
access the tape via /dev/pt0. it _seems_ to work, i.e.: i can write
and i can read (everything with 'tar'). but, i just tried to
backup much data and the driver crashed. the kernel gave the following
messages:

kernel: pt0: write filemark DSC timeout
kernel: pt0: Request sense before command: alt=0xc0 stat=0xc0 err=0x1c0 loop=600001 phase=192
kernel: pt0: rewind before command: alt=0xc0 stat=0xc0 err=0x1c0 loop=600001 phase=192
kernel: pt0: Request sense before command: alt=0xc0 stat=0xc0 err=0x1c0 loop=600001 phase=192

this was logged, when tar was running.

then, i tried an 'tar tf /dev/pt0' and the following was logged:

kernel: pt0: identify before command: alt=0xc0 stat=0xc0 err=0x1c0 loop=600001 phase=192
kernel: pt0: Request sense before command: alt=0xc0 stat=0xc0 err=0x1c0 loop=600001 phase=192
kernel: pt0: write filemark before command: alt=0xc0 stat=0xc0 err=0x1c0 loop=600001 phase=192
kernel: pt0: Request sense before command: alt=0xc0 stat=0xc0 err=0x1c0 loop=600001 phase=192
kernel: pt0: rewind before command: alt=0xc0 stat=0xc0 err=0x1c0 loop=600001 phase=192
kernel: pt0: Request sense before command: alt=0xc0 stat=0xc0 err=0x1c0 loop=600001 phase=192

can anybody help me here?
