See? Somebody always comes up with a use for something you think is a
corner-case..

I'd love to be good at this. It's "reasonably" simple to fix, too. But it
does have the problems discussed, which makes it a non-issue for 2.4.x
unless somebody shows both me and Al Viro wrong and comes up with an even
simpler solution that makes everybody go "Duh!".
