AHA1540CF supported?

I have an Adaptec AHA1540CF ISA SCSI card that I would like to use to
hook a scanner to my alpha. I'm running 2.2.14 kernels. I tried it out
first on an ix86 system I have here that is running the kernel from
RedHat 6.1 and had trouble with it. When I probed the module for the
device, it started scanning the bus, and slowly failing for all 8 numbers.
I had this problem even when there was nothing connected to the card
but a terminator.

Do I hvae a busted card? (It's possible, it's kinda old.) Is there a
better choice for an ISA SCSI card (I need ISA as my PCI slots are full)?
This is going to wind up in an alpha PC164 when I have faith in it.

Thanks.
