Ok, this works with the VA kernel from the floppy. Once it has finished
booting, the system appears to work normally (i.e. access to drives,
/proc/cpuinfo shows 4 processors, 2GB memory shown).
lilo.conf looks like this -

Have tried boot=/dev/sda as well.
