Check out the GRUB at http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/

We are shipping it as default with OpenLinux eDesktop 2.4 and so far
the only negative reactions have been the change from the familar lilo
configuration to an new configfile.

Otherwise it works wonderful and I had the very distinct pleasure of
ripping the "if (... <1024) " checks from our installer ;)
