Hi,
With 2.3.99-pre6-7, I get this error on boot, and ttyS? and cua? are
not created.
Serial driver version 4.93 (2000-03-20) with MANY_PORTS SHARE_IRQ
SERIAL_PCI enabled
ttyS00 at 0x03f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
ttyS01 at 0x02f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A
devfs: devfs_register(): device already registered: "ttyS"
devfs: devfs_register(): device already registered: "cua"
Specifically, ttyS and cua are there, but not ttyS0, ttyS1 are there.
ttyS is in fact ttyS0. I solved this problem (enough to boot) by doing
cd /dev
mv ttyS ttyS0
./MAKEDEV ttyS1
I was then able to run X and use ppp.
It looks like CONFIG_DEVFS is tested instead of CONFIG_DEVFS_FS in
several files...
