[bug] 2.3.99-pre6-3, everything migrates to swap space

ok, i believe this is very related to the VM killing *** bug.

i turned on swap to see if i could get further before X was killed. (i
have plenty of memory still free). X doesn't get killed now, but
everything gets moved into swap little by little and the machine starts
dragging pretty bad.

now, just about everything possible is stuck in swap until swap is
completely full. I can continue adding more and more swap and it
continues to be eaten away.

nothing in dmesg. notta thing at all.
