linux threads in 2.2.x/2.3.x

Hi,

can someone explain me by what a kernel thread is represented in
the kernel (2.2.x/2.3.x)? Something like a TID/PID? If so, how is
the TID/PID calculated. I found something about it in an old threads
faq - but I'm not sure if it is still actual.

thanks,
Volker
