That bites into your CPU a lot and your ram bandwidth a bit. Linux can certainly
handle a pair of 100Mbit tulip cards without trying hard and thats actually
what lan medias T3 hardware basically is for example.

I can certainly believe 4 T3's on a decent dual PCI bus box
