Total lockup with floppy on 2.3.29+

2.3.29 onwards cause complete hang on floppy access
 
[2.] Full description of the problem/report:

>From 2.3.29 onwards (inclusive), access to the floppy (read or write),
either "cat /dev/fd0" or through fs after mount, will reliably (although
non-deterministically) cause a total lock up on my UP box (no SysRQ).
No kernel messages get through. fsck usually complains of deleted inodes,
though it's sometime more serious. Floppies are standard 1.44Mb, and work
fine everywhere.
