ok, you will find included 4 excerpt from my syslog that trace my
 attempts at reading an OnStream DI-30 (ide-tape)
on a dual celeron 366, no overclocking. hardware is Asus P2B-D (440BX).

- 2.2.14 compiled in single CPU mode (but 2 physical CPUs), no nonus
patch.
  this is the kernel that ships on debian's floppies.
- 2.2.14 compiled in SMP mode, with nonus patch.
- 2.2.15pre14 SMP + nonus patch.
- 2.3.51 SMP, no nothing, plain archive version.

it's not there, but 2.3.99pre3 works fine now.
