CD-ROM problems (unable to play music cd's)

Hi,
I've been on this mailing list for a while, and now I'm thinking: why
don't I post some questions too, as there always seems to be answer here
:)
My problem has to do with playing CD's. My CD-ROM (a 36X Creative IDE
CD-ROM) is great for data-transfer (I installed various Redhat versions
from it and, to be honest, also Windows!). The problem is that when I
play music CD's, the music stops after about a minute or two.
Anybody had similar problems? My computer is a pretty normal one (dual
Celeron 400's, 128 MB RAM, 13 GB IDE hd, with a AWE 64 sound card). Is
there a known problem with the CD-ROM driver I'm using?
Thanks in advance,
Michael Abd-El-Malek
ps I have tried several CD players programs, and all experience the same
difficulty.
